SHAPE Values: Purpose

We’re getting close to the end of this series on the values that shape my practice. Today’s value is purpose-and if you know me, you know how much I care about helping people find their “why.”

Purpose is the “why” behind everything. It’s the thing that gets you out of bed when motivation is low, or keeps you going when things get tough. For some people, purpose is about winning or achieving; for others, it’s about growth, connection, or making a difference. There’s no right answer, but it’s important to know what yours is.

One exercise I love for exploring purpose comes from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: the “choice point.” We map out a situation where you’re at a crossroads-what actions move you towards your values and purpose, and what pulls you away? Seeing it laid out like this can make tough decisions clearer, and helps you choose actions that feel meaningful-even when they’re uncomfortable. It’s a practical way to keep purpose at the heart of what you do.

In performance psychology, having a sense of purpose is linked to resilience, grit, and long-term success. When we work together, we’ll spend time digging into what really matters to you-not just what you think should matter. We’ll set goals that actually mean something, so that when

you hit a rough patch (and you will, because everyone does), you’ve got something solid to come back to.

If you’re searching for more meaning in your performance or life, or want to reconnect with your “why,” let’s talk about how we can find and build on your purpose together.
